Goods from the Woods
Diamond Willow is a beautiful wood, found in the Northern United States through Canada to Alaska. It actually is a willow that grows in wet or swampy lake areas. It is found in lumpy growths with a thick gray rough bark. As it grows, a fungus attacks the trees where branches are forming. When the fungus attacked the tree, a darker, diamond area forms and grows over time. Thus leaving these darker areas and giving the name diamond willow. At times where the fungus attacked it leaves an area that is also attacked by insects, adding even more character to the wood. This is a very unique, beautiful and durable wood.
